• Good level of risk management knowledge and application 
• May also manage others at outdoor leadership level

• Also potentially no supervision - this person could well be a sole contractor and will be employed due to their level of autonomy and ability to work potentially unsupervised in a variety of environments

• Good level of personal skills in the discipline they will be instructing/guiding

• The Outdoor Pre-Hospital Emergency Care qualification

• Outdoor leadership qualifications should be completed before moving onto this level 
• Depending on the pathway some will go out and work directly towards this level without going through outdoor leadership
• New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association Level 1 qualification
